A place that
belongs to everyone.
Tōmoana is more than event infrastructure. It's a living commitment to the people, culture, and environment of Hawke's Bay.
Held in trust.
Invested in people.
As a charitable trust, Tōmoana Showgrounds exists to serve the long-term interests of Hawke's Bay. That means operating a world-class event venue — and using the resources it generates to reinvest in our community, our environment, and our future.
We believe a great venue and a responsible community organisation aren't in conflict — they reinforce each other. Our commercial success funds our community programmes. Our community connection makes this place matter.

What we invest in.
Biodiversity & Native Regeneration
We have planted over 15,000 native seedlings across the Tōmoana grounds, restoring waterways and creating corridors for native wildlife. This programme is ongoing in partnership with local iwi, schools, and community volunteers.
Kaitiakitanga — Environmental Stewardship
Tōmoana recognises its responsibility as kaitiaki of this land. We actively work to reduce our environmental footprint — from waste management at events to water conservation and sustainable infrastructure investment.
Cultural Partnerships
We work in close partnership with local iwi to honour the cultural significance of Heretaunga. Events such as Matariki Festival reflect our commitment to being a venue that celebrates and uplifts all communities.
Community Access & Activation
Tōmoana is a public asset. Through our charitable trust structure, we ensure the venue remains accessible — from Sunday markets to school events, community sports, and Lions fundraisers.
Recognising Heretaunga.
Tōmoana Showgrounds sits within Heretaunga — a place of deep cultural, historical, and spiritual significance for local iwi. We are committed to recognising and upholding that significance in how we operate, who we partner with, and the events we host.
We work in ongoing partnership with Ngāti Kahungunu and local hapū to ensure our programming, environmental stewardship, and community engagement reflects a genuine bicultural commitment.
